Flash 7 tip: Transformation Point
I just accidentally ran across a shortcut while showing a coworker how to force an object to scale or rotate from the top left corner by moving the registration transformation point of the object using the free transform tool.

And what I noticed was when I moved the registration point around on a shape (not a symbol) then if I ctrl+click on the registration transformation point it will snap back to the center. And if I moved the registration transformation point around on a symbol and I ctrl+click on the registration transformation point it will snap to the top left.
Maybe I missed that part in all the Flash books, but thought it was pretty cool ![]()

double-clicking anywhere on the shape does the same trick..

I think you are referring to the transformation point, not the registration point.

The picture shows a transformation point, not a registration point.

You both are correct, my apologies. I guess when I wrote this post (4 years ago) I was still used to the pre-Flash MX2004 methodology where the transformation point defaulted to the registration point. I have updated this 4 year old post for posterity.
