A new project

This weekend I began a new project I am really looking forward to. Not the type of project I typically post about, but one that will get me away from the computer a bit more I hope. The project is a 1975 Ironhead Sportster. Last year my Dad and I finished up my current motorcycle, a 2003 Chopper and I love it.

As a kid I can always remember my Dad having several bikes in the garage and guys coming by all the time with cool rides. Growing up I never took advantage of the wealth of knowledge my Dad had to offer with motorcycles, but instead chose to put my efforts into seeing how loud I could get my stereo and how low I could get my car. I'm a bit older now and regretting the missed opportunities. My Chopper was built in California in my Dads garage, and since I live in Texas I couldn't be as involved as much as I would have liked. It was my vision, no doubt about that but the actual work to bring life to the machine was my Dads doing.

Since I don't have as much knowledge as I would like regarding motorcycles, I have chosen to rebuild/chop a bike as opposed to starting from scratch. This one will be all me. I plan to make it a very clean 'Bobber' style bike, much like the rides built by SuckerPunch Sallys. I'll post my progress here as well as keeping the gallery updated.

Just curious how many other web guys/gals out there ride? wrench?

Welcome to the world of the coder-turned-greaser. I find myself posting more on my auto restoration site than on my Flash site these days (I’m slowly becoming a wrenchmonkey). It’s kinda nice to get out in the real world every now and then, though, isn’t it?

Looks like a fun project! Good luck!

I code too much, ride too little and wrench only when I have to!!!

hrm – never been a chopper kinda guy, i always saw myslef on a racing bike like a ducatti or R1/R3.
but the likely hood of somthing like that is highly unlikely therefore i stick with what i know. cars. :P

im not a muscle car kinda guy – more of a modern day picasso when it comes to sheet metal/bondo on imports – my next project will probobally be a ‘man’s minivan’ in the where abouts of a nice SUV, bagged no doubt.

will look forward to seeing your progress on this and to provide sarcastic enlightenment and encouragement.

LOL…Thanks Josh (aka Jayemsee)…nice to know I have your sarcasm to look forward to. Can’t wait to see your Plymouth Voyager all pimped out with diaper bags and all (that is what you meant by ‘bagged’ right ;) )
