Flash 9 ActionScript 3.0 preview available
What a great way to get the people who use your product excited about the next release (not like most Flash designers/developers ever needed much of a push anyway). Adobe releasing a way to start using the benefits of the new player without having to build a Flex app to do so is genius. Granted we would have all loved a new IDE to do so, but Flash 8 isn't even a year old yet, so its quite understandable. I know I have put off playing with AS3 because I'm not a Flex developer (yet) and wanted to wait to use Flash to get up to speed, so this is great news from my standpoint.
So, if you are a registered user of Flash 8, you can download and test Flash 9 ActionScript 3.0 Preview. Basically all this is, is an update to the Flash 8 authoring tool to support AS3, so no new fancy IDE bells and whistles yet. But a nice easy way to start playing with AS3 none the less.
However, if you aren't a registered user of Flash 8 but still want to play around with AS3, you can try out the Flex 2 SDK to compile your AS3 files.
Also, Adobe has added the ActionScript Technology Center to the site (or maybe it was always there and I just never saw it), in addition to the new Flex.org site, which both appear to be great resources.
Thanks for the new toys Adobe!

Just wanted to note that the AS3 Preview is available to everybody… you just have to sign up for free adobe “membership”.

Are you sure about that? It lets you export out a fully functional Flash movie and still has all the bells and whistles from the Flash 8 IDE. Seems kinda silly if they let you have a fully functional copy of flash for free for 6+ months. Maybe I’m wrong though… anyone else not have Flash installed already and able to get the beta download to run without a hitch?
